Hi, I'm Suzanne, and I’m so happy to have you here! My hope with this blog is to inspire adventure and make it easy for fellow wanderers to opt outside and explore.

When I travel, I like to balance adventures with indulgences, because it's important to invest in all the things that bring us joy; and for me, that is most typically an outdoor activity followed by food & drink at a fun, local spot.

A lot of my blogs are written as itineraries - for a day, a weekend, or a week; and even if you don’t follow each step, I hope you can find some useful tips and inspiration when planning your own adventure.

Happy Travels!

OAHU, HAWAII | One Week, One Island

One week, one island. This post has your guide to every magical corner full of hikes, beaches and food.

I know, an entire week on one Hawaiian Island seems like a lot to ask when there are several to explore. And candidly, I’ve only been to Oahu. But for those who find themselves on Oahu, this will be your ultimate guide to making the most out of every corner of the island! These are some of my all time favorite places on Oahu!

>>  TOP HIKES  <<

  • Crouching Lion (East side)
    • If there is one hike you do, it should be this one! The climb is enjoyable and the views are unbeatable. Guarantee that when the hike is over you'll want to dive into the ocean below.
    • But be sure to check all trails to make sure you take the right path up (there’s a few options, some for experienced climbers only)

  • WilliWilinui Ridge Trail (South side)
    • This is a good alternative to the “forbidden” stairway to heaven, you get to experience both the difficulty and the sheer reward of climbing many steps to a breathtaking view. The neatest part of this trail was really feeling like you were on a narrow ridge, hiking into the jungle. By the time you summit, you see how far into the mountains you've come, yet the ocean is still within eye sight.

  • Hamama Falls (East side)
    • The waterfall hike is a good alternative to some of the more popular and highly trafficked waterfall hikes on Oahu. Keep in mind this island isn’t as well known for waterfalls as some of the others, but if you’re craving one, this is a good option to explore!

  • Lanikai Pillbox Hike (Southeast)
    • There’s multiple pillbox hikes. Like most others I’m sure, this one had beautiful views and was the perfect quick and easy hike to do when first arriving, welcoming you to Hawaii!

  • Ka'ena Point Trail (West side)
    • Fun coastal trail to explore in Ka’ena Point State Park if you find yourself already on the far west side of Oahu. The road ends and only the trail will take you to the Northwest tip.

>>  FAVORITE BEACHES  <<

Sherwood Beach

  • Hammock lounge at Sherwood Beach, Waimanalo Bay State Recreation park (southeast)
    • If you’ve ever dreamt of hanging your hammock somewhere beautiful, this is the spot. There's an endless sea of trees fit for hammocks and and endless view of the turquoise blue sea.

    • Fun adventure spot to hop down into the caves during low tide. The beach and water near the caves was one of my favorites for slow crowds, soft sand, calm and clear waters.

    • Popular snorkel spot, with lots of tropical fish and coral to see, but be cautious of growing weary treading water, as it’s not completely still current.

    • Other than being the spot where the opening scene of Lost was filmed, it was a surprisingly long and empty beach with lots of sea turtle sightings!

    • This is the popular tourist spot to watch sea turtles swimming and coming to shore.

    • Sunset views in a less touristy part of Honolulu

    • A quick pull over spot to stop and take in the views on your way to East side

>>  BEST FOOD  <<

There's only three things you need to know:
Poke, shave ice, and Giovanni’s Shrimp.

  • Giovanni’s Shrimp, Kahuku and Haleiwa
    • Shrimp and garlic from a food truck, is there a more promising combination? This is a MUST visit for shellfish and garlic lovers. I’m talking unbelievable shrimp scampi, garlic shrimp. It’s a feast!

    • Island Vintage Shave Ice, Waikiki
      • My only regret from this trip is not buying into the shave ice hype until my last night in town. Island Vintage shave ice is unique with its froyo center. My taste buds have never tasted anything like this sweet, tart and creamy delight.

      • Ono Seafood, Honolulu
        • Tons of research and taste testing went into my search for the best Poke on the Island, and *ding, ding* Ono took the win! Don't let the small front with limited parking fool you.

      Island Vintage Shave Ice
      Giovanni’s Shrimp
      Ahi Assassins
      Other favorites:
      • Ahi Assassins, Honolulu
        • A very close second on my quest for incredible Poke!
      • Hale’iwa Bowls, Haleiwa
        • Stop in for a delightful Acai bowl if you find yourself on the north shore.
      • Kona Brewing, Honolulu
        • If you must order a Hawaiian Pizza when in Hawaii (like me), I recommend doing so right here. And enjoy your pizza on the patio overlooking the marina while you're at it.
      • OLIVE & OLIVER, Honolulu
        • Cute coffee and gift shop off the beaten path in downtown Waikiki
      • Honolulu Cookie Company
        • If you haven't heard about this local cookie company, consider this the first of many notifications. Samples, samples and more samples in store of this savory chocolate dipped shortbread cookie.
      • Deck Restaurant, Honolulu, HI
        • Neat spot for sunset cocktails

*One final Tip: Divide and conquer your days by focusing on one area of the island at a time.
