The small Cali town of Guerneville was perfect for a fun daytrip with a few friends.
An easy drive from San Francisco led to champagne, wine, redwoods and small town charm.

Stop 1:
Armstrong Redwoods State Preserve.
I'm easily drawn to redwood groves and the Armstrong Redwoods State Preserve did not disappoint. The best part: there was actual peace and quiet to enjoy and embrace the rolling groves of redwoods. This state preserve was significantly less crowded than the fan favorite Muir Woods, which offered me a completely new and different perspective on these beautiful giants. You can keep your visit simple with a stroll through the grounds, or embark on a longer hike.
Stop 2:
Lunch in downtown Guerneville.
Whether your visit to Armstrong Redwoods State Preserve was a long hike or more of a stroll - I hope you worked up an appetite! I recommending lunching at Boon Eat + Drink right downtown. Cute, cozy, and delicious food. Afterwards, pop next door to Nimble & Finn's for some homemade ice cream or a slice of their specialty pie!

Stop 3:
Korbel Champagne tasting
Now we're getting to the good stuff. Korbel offers a free champagne tasting. Yep, free! You're so close in Guerneville, you just can't not stop in. I did visit around Christmas time, but something about the entire property made me feel like I was walking into Santa's village. The staff are lovely, the drinks are bubbly; it's a must do!

Stop 4:
Wine tasting in Sebastopol
Driving through and experiencing this strip of Sonoma Country, winery after winery, was a real eye opener for me. I can confidently say that I doubt I'll visit Napa or Sonoma again anytime soon now that I realized the greater Sonoma County offers so much more of an intimate and delightful wine tasting experience. And that brings me to Sebastopol. You'll pass through on rt. 116 on your way back to San Francisco and I highly recommend working in a wine tasting stop or 2 on your way home. For this particular trip we did a tasting at Emeritus and it was one of my all time favorites. We enjoyed our wine on the patio, with blankets and a sunset view over the vineyards.
