A coastline covered in rolling fog has never looked so beautiful and magical. You assume the risk fog anytime you do anything in or around the Bay, but at Point Reyes, you should cross your fingers for fog - it only adds to the charm of this coastal area.

Cypress Tree Tunnel
This scenic spot is excellent for photography. The Cypress Tree Tunnel is an iconic shot I'd seen for a long time on social media before making it there in person myself. The magnificence of these cypress tree's is a sight to see. All you really need is a quick stop (parking is limited). Visiting early and on a weekday will get you less crowds and potentially complete privacy at the tunnel.

Beach North
There's a lot of beaches and overlooks on both the bay side and gulf side of Point Reyes that are worth a visit, but as of recent there's been some road closures limiting the spots you can get to. I had no problem getting to Beach North which is just down the road (Sir Francis Drake Blvd) from the cypress tree tunnel. There's ample parking at Beach North, and you should never encounter too big of a crowd - it's the perfect spot to take a long beach walk and watch the surfers.

McClures Beach (via McClures Beach Trailhead)
This particular morning I wasn't up for a big hike, (Tomales Point is a super popular hike out to the north point of Point Reyes), but right across the street from that trailhead is McClures Beach Trailhead - a very casual walk to the beach, winding down through the rolling hills. The fog was out in full force this morning, making for a creepy vibe, especially when the trail led to a completed deserted beach! During low tide, you might get lucky to see some star fish.
Cowgirl Creamery
When you've seen all you want to see of the Point Reyes seashore, definitely make a stop at Cowgirl Creamery on your way inland. The artisan cheese here is second to none. (Mount Tam Triple Creme is to die for!) So good that I packed 2 blocks and travelled with them across the country when I moved back east.
Dinner Recommendations:
At the end of your day, while you're already on this side of the Golden Gate Bridge, there's two spots I highly recommend for a meal
Lagunitas Brewery in Petaluma and Sol Food in Mill Valley are two of my favorite spots on the north side of Golden Gate Bridge.
