Yes, I drove all the way to Dixon, CA to see sunflowers, but, there's more to Dixon than just sunflowers! If you're into craft beer and local markets, this is the perfect little day trip. Time of year is essential, though. Sunflowers are in full bloom during June & July, and I went in July for what felt like the peak!

When to visit:
June and July is peak sunflower month in Northern California. I had successful timing thanks to a tip that suggested looking up the Dixon, CA and Davis, CA locations on Instagram around June, and you'll surely see people posting sunflowers and tagging these locations once they're in bloom.
The Perfect Sunflower Spot:
After bookmarking and checking out lots of spots, I found the lot behind the 76 Gas station (on Pedrick Road) to be the best spot for sunflower viewing and photos. They are plentiful and you don't feel like you're trespassing. The runner up spot was Currey Rd. at the corner of Sievers
Tip: Sunset is the best time for photos. Scope the scene in the afternoon and then come back at the end of the day after you've checked out some local craft breweries (my recommendations below!)
Roadtrip Snacks from Pedrick Produce:
Right across the street from the 76 gas station is Pedrick Produce - I'm a sucker for a local market, and that is Pedrick's in a nutshell (no pun intended); tons of locally grown nuts, fruits and produce and quite possibly the best caramel chocolates I have ever tasted.
Local Brews:
With every road trip comes the opportunity to seek out a local brewery. First stop was Ruhstaller Brewery right in Dixon. Next, we ventured into Davis and checked out Three Mile Brewing Co. Both were solid choices.
